How you end up with a round bottle

London, 1999, at Garfunkel's: five of the floor crew with their arms around each other The Garfunkel's crew drawn as a comic

You learn the trade where it happens

It starts with summer seasons behind bar counters. Then, in London, he begins at Garfunkel’s, on the bar. Not a course: one shift after another, watching the hands of people who had been doing it for twenty years. And that is where the passion for the profession is born: bartender.

The Flairway plaque: a tricolor heraldic lily that is also a bottle with a pourer, and underneath the words beverage solutions The Flairway plaque drawn as a comic Verona, 2002

Flairway

He comes back to Italy and opens his bartending school: teaching Italian bartenders the new techniques and helping mixology in Italy evolve.

And under the name, two words: beverage solutions. Twelve years ahead of time, they describe what was coming. Not a course: the solution to a beverage problem.

The bright white bar of Fun & Chic: Matteo in shirt and suspenders behind the counter, four girls in white dresses with cocktails in hand The catering bar drawn as a comic the events, since 2002 Three cocktails served at a catering event: coupes inside glass spheres, edible flowers at the base, the bartender in shirt and suspenders behind the tray The catering cocktails drawn as a comic

And then came catering

The cocktail service of Fun & Chic: the drinks and the service at any event, among the first in Italy to do it in white gloves.

Then comes the weekend with three requests and only one Saturday. The problem was never the cocktails: we knew how to make those. It was being in three places at once, and staff doesn’t multiply.

The MixingLab classroom: bar counter, stools, a screen showing International Bartending Masterclass The MixingLab classroom drawn as a comic MixingLab, 2008

MixingLab, the school evolves

The school gets a name of its own, MixingLab, and a real place: a bar counter, stools, two back bars full of bottles and a screen for masterclasses. You don’t teach cocktail-making in a classroom with school desks.

Hover over it: under the drawing there’s the real photo.

Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge: Matteo in shirt and suspenders sets two yellow cocktails on the bar, in front of the competition backdrop The Angostura competition drawn as a comic competing, 2013

Competitions and the international jet set

From 2009 the international competitions start, one after another, along with the circuit of top-level bartenders: you travel, you watch how others work, you swap trade secrets and make friends with top colleagues. You come home with the bar set higher.

And in competition he doesn’t bring a cocktail, he brings a story: a character, a set, a carefully chosen name. The drink is the ending of the tale, not the content.

Twelve months later, the idea of the bottle is born.

The first Bubbles: a red sphere with a vertical white band, Bubbles Americano Sour The first Bubbles from 2014 drawn as a comic the first one, 2014 The seal of the first Bubbles: an octagonal blue sticker with the words Fun & Chic The Fun & Chic seal drawn as a comic

The first one was simply called Bubbles

A sphere, a white band, the web address on the neck. And on the cap, sealing it, the catering sticker: the bottle leaves sealed with the mark of the service it was born from.

The name comes from the people: they called those spheres bombette, little bowler hats. From there to Bubbles is a short step, and the name catches up with the thing one last time, becoming Mr. Bubbles.

The idea dates back to 2010: four years to get to a bottle you could really serve.

If I can’t come and do the service for you,
I’ll bring my cocktails to your party.
The Fun & Chic Cocktail Delivery price list: the spherical bottle among grapefruit, lime and maraschino The 2016 delivery price list drawn as a comic delivery, 2016

The first online shop in Italy for ready-to-drink cocktails

The new Fun & Chic website, and inside it a menu nobody else had: craft cocktails to go, chosen online and delivered.

December 2016. Delivery still runs under the catering name.

The first bottle: an orange sphere with the white Bubbles band and the light-blue catering sticker The 2018 bottle drawn as a comic 2018, the new look Today’s bottle: the same sphere with the octagonal collar and the Mr. Bubbles logo printed on the front Today’s bottle drawn as a comic

From Bubbles to Mr. Bubbles

The brand changes its look: out go the white band and the catering sticker, and the logo is printed on the front, with the full name.

And then comes the collar: you slip it off and it becomes a coaster. You take home that bit of bar service too. The sphere, though, stays untouched.

A courier on a bicycle seen from behind, with an insulated backpack bearing the Mr. Bubbles logo and the words cocktails to your door The bicycle courier drawn as a comic Verona, 2018

The cocktail arrives by bicycle

And the new website goes live, misterbubbles.it.

And the cocktail starts moving on its own: in Verona a guy on a bike brings it to your door, backpack on his shoulders and the logo on his back. Within three months 2night, Bargiornale and L’Arena write about it: the first craft cocktail delivery in Italy.

Craftsmanship is not a production method. It is a promise to the customer.

01 Chosen ingredients

Fresh fruit extracts and high-quality spirits. Every recipe is the result of years of trials, not of a spreadsheet.

02 The round bottle

The transparent 160 ml sphere in recycled PET shows the true color of the cocktail. It is why you can spot us from afar.

03 Recycled, and still recyclable

PET that starts out recycled and can be recycled again. A circle, not an arrow drawn on the label.

04 Ready anywhere

Pour it over ice and that’s it. No shaker, no jiggers, nothing to wash afterwards.

A great cocktail doesn’t leave a bad aftertaste

Not on the planet either. Bubbles are made of recycled PET, which can become recycled PET again: the loop really closes, with no need to tell it with a green badge.
