Where it comes from
The story
![]()
Mojito: a little spell from the heart of the Caribbean. Its roots go back to the 1600s, when the privateer Sir Francis Drake created the "Draque", a mix of raw rum, sugar, lime and mint used as a remedy and as "liquid courage" across the Caribbean. International fame came in the 1950s thanks to Ernest Hemingway, a regular at the Bodeguita del Medio in Havana, where a plaque still reads: "Mi Mojito en la Bodeguita". The name probably comes from "mojo", which in Caribbean tradition means spell: a little charm of freshness in a glass.
